As Tasmania’s premier entertainment venue, the Derwent Entertainment Centre (DEC) has played host to many national and international live entertainment shows, corporate dinners, conventions, exhibitions and sporting events. The Main Arena is flexible and versatile, designed to be configured in a variety of modes making it the ideal space for any event regardless of size.
Our experienced team transform the Main Arena from a live entertainment show with a capacity of 7000 people to a corporate dinner for 300 people from one day to the next. An intimate setting can be created using floor to ceiling curtains and carpeted floor, while the venue can then be fully opened up for any large concert, exhibition or sporting event.
When you hire the Main Arena the entire venue is at your disposal. Access to our numerous function rooms is free with your booking including the Astley Room, Seminar Suites & Boardroom. These spaces provide the opportunity for private meetings, breakout sessions, pre-show cocktails, VIP pampering, artist meet-and-greet or whatever else you may need.
All available in-house staging, furniture, audio and visual equipment is provided free of charge and any additional requirements can be sourced at highly competitive rates. Our flexible packages ensure you receive the best possible value for your booking.
The Astley Room, the newest space within the DEC, is a private function room on the river side of the venue. Named after Rick Astley who performed at the venues official opening concert in 1989, the Astley Room features a unique roof structure, an abundance of natural light, a wall of floor to ceiling windows, gorgeous views of the Derwent River and Glenorchy Art & Sculpture Park (GASP), courtyard and landscaped gardens perfect for relaxing and catering breaks. The room also features the latest AV equipment all included when you hire the space.
Featuring an adjoining bar space and level free car park with direct access to the room, the Astley Room is the ideal venue for your conference, wedding or private function. It’s also one of our most versatile spaces, able to be configured for any purpose and easily themed to give your event a truly unique experience.
Our Boardroom offers comfortable seating for up to 20 guests, with a range of private facilities so your team can stay focused and get on with the agenda at hand. With a private bar and kitchenette, pleasant views over landscaped gardens and even a private bathroom with shower facilities, the Boardroom will impress your guests at your next meeting, seminar, training session or presentation.
The Devils’ Den is an intimate space perfect for a meeting, breakout session, training course or to pamper VIPs. Named by sporting commentators when the Tassie Devils basketball team called the DEC home from 1989 to 1996, this room features a pleasant outlook over landscaped gardens, a private setting and a range of configuration options.
The adjacent Devils’ Foyer is perfect for your guests to relax in while enjoying our premium catering service.
The Seminar Suite is perfect for hosting small to mid size groups in an intimate, focussed setting. Featuring one large and one small room, the Suite offers a range of configuration options to suit a multitude of different events.
The large room can be divided with concertina doors to create up to 4 individual spaces if required.
The Seminar Suite offers a highly flexible layout, with connecting rooms and guest overflow, to create the perfect mix of filled and free space ideal for meetings, seminars, conferences and training sessions.
